The ATCC E-Commerce site is tightly integrated with their ERP system due to complex regulatory requirements and customer specific pricing rules. Insite's windows integration service is used to give real-time customer specific pricing and create real-time quotes directly in the ERP.
The ATCC system handles hundreds of thousands of real-time calls to the ERP system per day. The site handles ERP outages gracefully by maintaining the cart locally before submitting to the ERP for pricing quotes. During an outage, the cart is preserved and automatically resubmitted when the ERP is online again. Users whose checkout process is interrupted are notified via email when the system comes online again. The checkout process includes the ability to send a user's cart to purchasing agent, a common scenario for large companies and institutions working with ATCC.
The ATCC E-Commerce site integrates three separate e-commerce checkout flows into a single Sitecore site that shares products and other content to reduce replication of effort and provide a portal with world-wide reach. IP geo-location is used to determine whether the user will use the ATCC, International or distributor checkout and provide the correct permits and routing of the order. Customers in the European region are routed to a separately branded portal that shares content with ATCC but allows editors to add or remove specific pages using Sitecore role security and provide a separate checkout process with rules specific to that region.
